Summer is here... and I am TRYING to be prepared! Summer is rough for Miss Em because of the lack of structure she is used to in the school year and we have a hard time finding balance. Two summers ago I packed our schedule chuck full of activities, therapies and more - plus she was doing 3 hours 5 days a week of therapeutic preschool. It was too much for both of us and we were burning it at both ends. By the end of summer we were exhausted! Last summer in an act of what can only be compared to teenage rebellion I decided we were going to have a lazy "typical" summer. No therapies of any kind, no "structured" activities. We were going to swim, play outside and hang out. That was rough, probably more rough the the previous summer. What I learned - Emma needs structure and consistency but also needs a dose of downtime to watch Spongebob in her underoos. So this summer I have chosen very carefully what "enriching" things we will be doing, put together a daily schedule and try to keep structure and sanity in the home with chores and menus. We will see how it goes! Here is a sample of our weekly schedule, which has been tweaked a bit here and there:
